Viggiu'
The small, lovely village of Viggiù rises on the hills of the Varesotto area, just a few kilometres away from Varese and Switzerland. Its origins can be traced back to the Gallic wars lead by Julius Caesar. In the Sixties and Seventies it was nicknamed "the Varesotto Pearls" as it was the favourite holiday resort of the wealthy Milanese and tourists coming from Switzerland and many other countries. The surrounding hills offer you a stunning view of Lake Ceresio (also known as Lake Lugano) as well as interesting traces of the two World Wars. Viggiù is particularly proud of its stone-cutters (known as "picasas"), who have enriched the churches and monuments of the area with their works |

| Near Varese, 70 km from Milan, nature puts on one of its best shows. A large park, a pine forest and ten hectares of marvellous woods filled with spruce, chestnut trees, ash and birch, beckoning passers-by to stroll in their inviting shade. Colours that change with the light and the seasons, bursts of flowers, of contrasts. We are in Viggiù, in the setting of Le Pinete. |
