During the Middle Ages Gaiole in Chianti
was an important market place, developed
along the road for Valdarno. The
numerous castles and parish churches in
the vicinity bear witness to an intense
and prosperous activity. Among the
castles, which were all established in
the Middle Age, of particular interest
is Vertine, also Meleto with its two
majestic rounded angular towers,
Barbischio, Spaltenna and above all
Brolio castle.

| Badia a Coltibuono is the first wine resort in Chianti, opening it's doors to travellers and visitors who want to share a truly unique experience. Here it is possible to encounter the magic of a venue, to observe the slow yet intense rhythm of a 1000 year old abbey and farm and to sleep in history. Guests can rest and relax in the magnificent Italian style garden or, during the summer months, around the large open-air swimming pool. For the rest of the year, Badia a Coltibuono also has an indoor counter current swimming pool, with an annexed Turkish bath.

| San Sano is a small charming hotel in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico area, Tuscany. Our guesthouse lies in the middle of Tuscany where the Chianti grapes have been cultivated for centuries. The building itself was renovated from a 13th century fortress. One can easily visit the nearby historic cities of Florence, Siena und Arezzo.

| A dreamlike place no longer exclusive to the Tuscan aristocracy but also open to you. Meleto Castle, like Brolio Castle a fortification of the Florentines against the Sienese, belonged to the Ricasoli family who sold the great estate of about 1.100 hectares to the Societą Viticola Toscana in 1968. In the centre of the estate, high on the hill, the Castle fortress seems to survey the whole Farm. In summer 1998 six apartments were created by rehabilitating estate outhouses directly built onto the Castle wall or fortification.
